Description: This piece is an overture to the opera William Tell by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868). An opera is a form of sung theatre and the overture serves as an instrumental introduction to it. William Tell is set in the 13th century and tells the story of Swiss peasants (including William Tell) and their struggle to overthrow their Austrian oppressors. This piece needs to be fast, lively and energetic.
