“THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE”

Description: This piece is a symphonic poem by Paul Dukas (1865-1935) and is based on the poem of the same name by Goethe. A “symphonic poem” is a piece of orchestral music which illustrates or evokes the content of a non-musical source (such as a poem or a short story). The piece begins as an old sorcerer leaves his workshop, leaving his apprentice with chores to perform.
