Narcisa Freixas (1859-1926) was a prominent Catalan artist, sculptor, and musician, known for her contributions to both the visual and musical arts. Born in Sabadell, Spain, Freixas was celebrated for her detailed and expressive sculptures, which often depicted children and scenes of everyday life, capturing the innocence and simplicity of her subjects with a tender realism. In addition to her visual art, she was also an accomplished composer and pianist, creating numerous pieces that reflected the folk traditions of Catalonia. Freixas was actively involved in cultural circles and made significant efforts to promote education and the arts, particularly among women and children. Her legacy is remembered for its blend of artistic talent and dedication to cultural enrichment.
The three solos I’ve selected showcase her accessible style.
